第七十八章   承辱稱王

天下莫柔弱于水，而攻堅(jiān)強(qiáng)者莫之能勝，以其無以易之。 弱之勝強(qiáng)，柔之勝剛，天下莫不知，莫能行。 是以圣人云：受國(guó)之垢，是謂社稷主；受國(guó)不祥，是為天下王。正言若反。

Taking Disagrace to be the Leader

Nothingis the world

isas yielding and receptive as water,

Yetfor dissolving the hard and inflexible,

nothingcan surpass it.

The weak overcomes the strong; the soft overcomes the hard.Everyone knows this, but no one puts it into practice.

Thesoft overcomes the hard,

thegentle overcomes the rigid.

Nonein the world do not know this,

butfew can put this into practice.

ThereforeEnlightened Individuals say:

普天下沒有什么東西比水更柔弱了，而其穿透力卻沒有什么能勝過它，沒有什么東西是可以代替水的。柔勝剛，弱勝強(qiáng)，這個(gè)道理天下無人不知，但卻沒有人真正去實(shí)施。

所以古人說：能承擔(dān)國(guó)家之屈辱，才配擔(dān)當(dāng)治國(guó)之重任；承擔(dān)全國(guó)的災(zāi)難，才稱得上國(guó)家的君王。依天道無比正確的話語，在世俗中聽起來如反話一樣。
